Robert Schumann’s beloved cycle Frauenliebe und Leben (A Woman’s Life and Love) on Chamisso’s poetry is a staple of romantic repertoire for mezzo-soprano and piano. Renowned young British composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad collaborated with crime novelist and poet Sophie Hannah to develop a contemporary response to Chamisso’s verses, finding much inspiration in Schumann’s profound music. The result is One Life Stand, a kaleidoscopic and beautifully engaging cycle. Antoinette Halloran and Coady Green present both cycles together as a unique concert experience.
